Esperanza College was birthed from a tugging at the heart to impact the lives of people beyond the Sunday morning pulpit. It was, and is, a college unique to any other; an institution of redemption, grace and hope. This tug was felt by a group of Hispanic pastors in North Philadelphia in 1982 as they rallied together to serve a community suffering from poverty, unstable housing, low educational attainment, and high crime. The result was the creation of the Hispanic Clergy and in 1987, they developed a non-profit organization, called Nueva Esperanza Inc.

Applying to Esperanza College

We are glad you are taking steps to further your education by applying to Esperanza College of Eastern University!

Below are the steps you will need to take to apply to Esperanza College. You may apply online (click here for the online application) or request a paper application. However, there is more to the admissions process than simply filling out an application. In order to assist you with the admissions process you will be assigned a personal admissions counselor. Your admissions counselor will let you know your application status, inform you about deadlines and encourage you along the way!

Here are the 1-2-3’s of applying successfully to Esperanza College:


June 16th - Fall admission (classes start July)
November 28th – Spring admission (classes start January)

Complete the application (click here to apply online) and take the English entrance exam. The entrance exam is an English listening and reading comprehension assessment. Call 215-324-0746 ext. 410 to schedule your exam. There is a $25 fee for this exam, money order only, payable to Nueva Esperanza Inc.

Entrance exams are offered:
Wednesday – 10:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m.


Gather the following important documents that must be submitted with your application:

  • Write and submit your essay.A minimum of 500 words or more typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font.
    Answer the following questions in your essay:
    • Why do you want to attend college and why have you chosen to attend Esperanza College of Eastern University?
    • Describe an important learning experience or accomplishment in your life. What did it take for you to succeed? What did you learn about yourself from this experience?
  • 2 recommendation forms (PDF form to print)- Recommendations can not be from a friend or family member.
  • Request for your official high school transcript or GED results and college transcript from any institution you attended after high school and have them sent to:

NOTE: If you completed high school via an online school, make sure it is registered by the Department of Education.  If it is not, you will need to take the GED exam and submit those results. Not all online programs are accepted.


You will be notified of your admission status once we have received all the documents we need in order to make an admissions decision. We may also schedule you for a formal admissions interview if we feel it is necessary in helping us make an admissions decision.

It is important for you to make sure that we receive all the items we need to be able to make a decision on your admission. Your admissions counselor will keep you posted on what items may still be missing, but ultimately it is your responsibility to make sure we receive all needed items.

Q: What do I need to do after I have been accepted?

  • Please contact our admissions office to sign up for a Registration Event to finalize the enrollment process and register for classes.
  • At the Registration Event you will need to submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit, money order only. For accepted students in Spring admission period the enrollment deposit is $75 before November 15th, after November 15th it will increase to $100. For accepted students in the Fall admission period the enrollment deposit is $75 before May 15th, after May 15th it will increase to $100.
  • At the Registration Event you will also complete registration forms and other important forms and take your student ID picture.
  • Schedule an appointment with a Student Finance Representative to discuss your student aid.

Application Deadlines

Esperanza College operates on a rolling admissions basis. However, for the very best financial aid package and for a smooth admissions process, it is highly recommended that you meet the following application and financial aid deadlines:

Fall application deadline – June 16  (classes begin in July)
Spring application deadline – November 28 (classes begin in January)
FAFSA deadline – May 1 (Note: All students planning to start classes in the Fall or Spring must meet this May 1st FAFSA deadline)

Students who meet the application and FAFSA deadlines are more likely to:

  • Find out earlier if they have been admitted
  • Find out earlier what their financial aid is
  • Receive their laptop on time
  • Receive their textbooks on time
  • Be equipped with the tools they need to succeed academically
