Middle Level Education Program Overview
The Esperanza College Associate of Arts degree in middle level education with an emphasis in math or science prepares students to teach math or science in the middle grades—5th to 8th grades. Courses prepare students in the development of teaching skills, such as lesson planning, and knowledge of different educational philosophies for middle grade settings.
At Esperanza College, the middle level education program with an emphasis in math or science focuses on providing students with enough background and hands-on experience, including lab work and field activities, to continue to a four-year science or mathematics degree in education for the middle grades. The program offers rigorous courses in mathematics, life science, and physical science. The classes are taught by excellent professors in state-of-the-art facilities, enabling students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the lab and in the classroom. The student’s faith and religious thoughts are also called upon to reflect on scientific realities. Students have the opportunity to discover and articulate how their faith life enlightens their chosen academic pathway.
Students pursuing this academic program have a double privilege: the fulfilling nature of their field and the fulfillment of sharing science or math with young minds, perhaps even preparing future generations in the important fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
