Many times you have heard the slogan: "Education is the key to success!" The implication is that success means getting a job. This is only one part of what education is about. A school who advertises only about getting you skills for a job is leaving out very important parts of what makes you a successful person. Stay with me as we explore this a bit.
A successful person in today's global economy is a bicultural and bilingual person. This means that the person can not only speak more than one language but must be able to function in a different cultural environment. The person must have self confidence, must be able to bring a combination of skills, and other gifts to bear on their job. These are things that are not in a job description such as the ability to cope with stress and to manage conflict. It can include creative and critical thinking and the capacity for problem solving and working with a team. These things require formation.
Formation has to do with character, integrity, a sense of justice, and the development of relational and emotional intelligence. Education for formation will help you with time management and self discipline. These are things that help you become a better you. It demands a school that will teach you about managing your finances in the process of helping you with financial aid and that will provide extra academic support free of charge when you need it.
Formation is also about finding the spiritual grounding of your life so as to be able to be creative and positive when others are falling apart. This will earn you much favor in the work place. Education is also about healing the parts of ourselves that serve as impediments to self discovery and the development of who you are to the fullest. This requires a commitment on the part of your professors to support you, at times by holding your hand and in other moments by pushing you forth or confronting you with a greater picture of who you can become.
This is the quality of education that Esperanza College offers you. In an environment of respect we strive to develop every dimension of who you are and will become; your mind, your soul, your spirit. When all of these are integrated, this is the measure of true success. It is education for more than just temporary success. It is education that prepares you to be a role model, a person who can make a difference in your community; it is for your fulfillment. We welcome you to Esperanza College a place for the formation of global leaders with character, integrity and a vision to make a difference.
